Chapter Twelve

As the steady stream of people leaving the rink slowly turned into a trickle, Olivier put his book back in the side pocket of his duffle. He climbed out of his truck to walk towards the door and his phone rang. He dug it out then checked the screen.

“Jeff, mon ami, what are you doing up so late?” He shouldered open the door.

“Will and I just got back from dinner and seeing a play. I saw a segment about your team on ESPN, and thought of you. Wanted to see how you were doing.” Jeff was one of Olivier’s closet friends and he tried to call him at least once a week.

Smiling, Olivier nodded at Ethan before setting his bag on the counter. “I’m doing well. PT is going great and I’m back to skating. Still not at full speed, but it’s only a matter of time.”

“Great to know, man. You’ll be back playing in no time. Good thing too. Your team’s not doing too bad, but they need some solid defensive help.”

Olivier could hear murmuring on Jeff’s end. “Is that Will? Tell your gorgeous husband I said hello.”

Jeff chuckled. “You need to stop flirting with Will, and find your own guy, Olivier. There have to be some gay guys up in Saskatoon.”

“Oh there are some, and that’s all I’m going to say. Have a good night, Jeff. Give Will a hug for me and I’ll text you soon.” Olivier hung up before Jeff could say anything else.

“Who’s Jeff?” Ethan looked up from the sheet he was writing on.

Olivier gave him a quick kiss before answering. “He’s a good friend of mine. I’ve known him for about four or five years. Met at a charity event in New York. We actually played on the same team. Talked and found we had a lot in common, so we stayed in touch.”

“And Will is?” Ethan took his hand and tugged him closer.

“Will is Jeff’s husband. They are so in love and make quite a handsome pair. Jeff knows I’m teasing when I say things like that to him.” Olivier buried his hand in Ethan’s hair to hold him still while he leaned to kiss him.

This time it wasn’t quick. Olivier sucked on Ethan’s bottom lip before catching it between his teeth. He gave him a little nip then they duelled with tongues and teeth. Soon he was hard and wanting more than a kiss, but Ethan eased away from him.

“I have paperwork I need to finish and cleaning up to do. You should go get your skating in. We can continue this afterwards,” Ethan promised.

Olivier didn’t want to, but he knew Ethan was right. He needed to get out on the ice and work his knee. It wasn’t like Ethan was going anywhere. Even though he had to leave, Olivier planned on coming back to continue PT. The doctors were happy with his healing and rehab, but they weren’t giving him any date for a return to the team.

He would have to drive to Edmonton in two weeks to meet up with the team when they played the Oilers.
